Catching up

First of all a reminder that we have a concert on Saturday evening, the 6 November (not tonight!!! Next Saturday!!! Apologies for any confusion and thanks to David for suggesting I clarify) – 6:45pm, at Belchamps Scout Centre , Holyoak Lane Hockley SS54JD.

Also Roy announced last week that our concert on 26 November will start early (6pm). We appreciate that this might prove a little awkward for some band members.

And, our season of Christmas concerts comes to an end on 4 December this year – a little early, but it will mean that we can move straight on to our repertoire for next year. It looks like we’ll be busier than usual in the first few months of 2011, with concerts in March and April in addition to our normal season. I’ll post more details as they become available.

In other news, remember Charlotte’s quiz night, back in September? Well, they raised £132 from the quiz nightfor Christian Aid. Charlotte said they had a good turn out of people and received lots of good compliments, everyone looked as though they’d enjoyed themselves! So, well done Charlotte. By the way, the email address charlottesquiznight@harmonie.org.uk is no longer valid.

We’ve got a concert coming up on 2 October.

Well, it’s more of a performance really – featuring ourselves, the Eastwood Chorale and the Julie Noble School of Dance and Drama.

It's not crooked. Your eyes have gone funny...

I haven’t got the programme yet – I’ll post it shortly – but the three groups will be collaborating on some pieces (including “Rhythm of Life”, and “Hymn to the Fallen” among others). Not content with the challenge of playing in time and in tune amongst ourselves, next week we’ll be playing in time with the dancers, and in tune with the singers. Or is it the other way around? (Maybe it’s just as well I can’t make it to this one!)

We had a joint rehearsal last night – about 15 dancers, 30 singers, and 40-odd instrumentalists – which seemed to go very well, so I’m sure this will be a great night for all (except me, because I won’t be there…)

Anyway, tickets are a mere £8 and it is for a good cause (in fact, two very good causes: Havens Hospices, and St. Martin’s Residential Care*). We are very pleased to be supporting these two charities, and we hope that this event is successful in raising large amounts of cash for them both.

You can get your tickets from Charlotte at rehearsal on Wednesday, or you can contact enquiries@harmonie.org.uk.

*If anyone has a link to their website, please let me know and I’ll update this post

So you think you know stuff…

Charlotte (she of second clarinet fame) is organising a quiz night for Friday 17th September at 8pm.
The quiz is to raise money for Christian Aid. It’s being held at St.Nicholas Church in Rawreth, and you can bring along family and friends. Maybe we can have a ‘Team Harmonie’! The more the better!
You can bring nibbles & drink (alcohol is allowed!). Tickets are only £5. Please contact Charlotte at charlottesquiznight@harmonie.org.uk.

Hope to see as many of you there as possible!!
